PROJECT LABS
ABOUT PROJECT LABS
Project Labs will allow students to earn course credit over multiple semesters while working on faculty-led, interdisciplinary, public-facing projects that take on issues like homelessness or the development of civics educational resources for schools.
Through Project Labs, students will have opportunities to:
- Develop and demonstrate 21st-century skills like digital literacies, complex problem solving, and teamwork
- Apply knowledge from classes to real-world projects with impact
- Build networks with faculty, community groups, non-profits, and businesses
- Build a portfolio to show what they know.
Project-Based Learning asks students to apply knowledge from their classes and experiences to real-world problems. Working with faculty, non-profits, and businesses on public-facing projects, they further develop skills that will help them in college, in their personal lives, and on their career paths. Students also are able to build a portfolio to show what they know.
Project Labs will help students develop the 21st Century Career Skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing career landscape. By working on interdisciplinary teams on long-term, public-facing projects, students advance their skills in communication, complex problem solving, teamwork, creativity, and adaptability.
GSU’s Project Labs is based on the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) concept and will be a part of the VIP Consortium. The VIP model is used at over 20 universities and is based on STEM, particularly engineering, labs. GSU will use this approach to develop labs in the Humanities and Arts, Social Sciences, STEM disciplines, and Education.
