Culture and Health in Clarkston
Lab Description
CLAS in the Community will help develop important video-based health education materials for low-income adults who have low health literacy and high health needs, and who live in Clarkston. Low health literacy is a silent killer; people cannot adhere to medication and discharge instructions, be prepared for their next treatment visit, or make informed healthcare choices if they fundamentally do not understand what their health provider said.
Learning Outcomes
Students will develop knowledge in cultural competence and health literacy, understand the problems facing low-resource multi-ethnic communities, and create video-based health education materials that are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
